BOMA Buffalo is excited to partner with Launch NY's Emerging Cleantech (ECO) Incubator by organizing a focus group on March 15, 2022, 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. for Buildings + Climatetech Startups Growing in Buffalo! Tickets are available at no cost through Launch New York, but pre-registration is required.

We are seeking approximately 20 facilities and property management professionals to join us for a brief lunch presentation to provide constructive feedback and open conversation to help these companies with their product development.

The four companies featured, Breezi, EagleHawk, Feedback Solutions, and HELIXintel, are all focused on providing solutions for improving building efficiency, maintenance, and helping to decrease building carbon emissions.

Our 2021-2022 BOMA Award Winners


Luke Cusack of Savarino Properties accepts the "Property Manager of the Year" Award from BOMA President Michele Messina.

Congratulations to all of our BOMA Award winners! Recipients were annouced November 18, 2021 at Tewskbury Lodge.

The late Mark Hamister, Founder and CEO of Hamister Group, received a posthumous "Leadership in Real Estate" award. The award was accepted by his son, Daniel Hamister, who shared cherished memories and life lessons learned from his father.

Luke Cusack, Vice President at Savarino Properties, LLC was awarded the "Property Manager of The Year" award after receiving a record 16 letters of recommendations. Comments from the letters included

  • “Professionalism is the attribute that best describes our property manager.”
  • “Presents himself in a manner that exudes confidence, leadership and respect.”
  • “Leads by example and rolls up his sleeves spending countless hours
    doing the difficult work needed.”
  • “Nothing short of a Rockstar.”

TRANE Outlines the Latest Trends in HVAC at Flying Bison

What's in store for the future of HVAC? Joe Guongo and Dave Delvecchio of TRANE outlined what's next for BOMA members at Flying Bison Brewery on January 13. Topics included variable refrigerant flow, decarbonization and electrification, building automation, intelligent cloud-based controls, and next-generation refrigerants. 

TM Montante Development Embraces Revitalization in Buffalo and Niagara Falls

Christian Campos, president of TM Montante Development, laid out a dynamic vision for two major projects at our January meeting held at the TrEC Center  at 616 Niagara in Niagara Falls.

Campos focused on the transformation of the former Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital Site into Lancaster Square, and the influx of investment and development in Niagara Falls, NY.

According to Campos, “quality real estate development can have a tremendous, positive impact on communities by creating places and spaces to live and work that are not only functional, but also inspiring, vibrant and sustainable.”

Government Affairs

Winter Business Meeting

BOMA International’s Winter Business Meeting & National Issues Conference will be held in Washington, D.C. from February 6 to February 9. BOMA Buffalo member and former president, Don Erb (BOMA Fellow, RPA, FMA) will be attending as part of the BOMA International Nominating Committee.

Climate Action Council Draft Scoping Plan

The comment period for the Climate Action Council Draft Scoping Plan is open now through the end of April. The Draft Scoping Plan “describes recommended policies and actions to help New York meet its ambitious climate directives as part of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act),” according to NYSERDA.

Education

BOMA Buffalo’s education committee is working diligently to provide exciting education programs both in person and virtual this year.

January’s Trane seminar at Flying Bison was a fresh perspective on changes in the HVAC industry and how the companies such as Trane are developing new technologies to adapt to those changes.

This spring, the committee will be providing presentations on sustainability programs and an overview of the Well Buildings certification, as well as an OSHA training course. Stay tuned for meeting dates and times.

Attorney Colleen Killian will review the current legislation as well as what is pending in the legislature. She will provide information regarding changes to the Landlord Tenant practice, impacts of the pandemic, review of the CARES Act, Tenant Safe Harbor Act, CEEFPA and Executive and Administrative Orders.
